THE SOUND OF THE BELL

A Gentle Invitation

Recently, I saw a photo of a woman ringing the bell at the end of her cancer treatment. If you’ve ever been in a cancer center, you know that sound. It’s brief. It echoes down a hallway. People clap. Some cry. And then life, somehow, begins again.

I’m a writer and a cancer survivor myself, and I’m beginning a book project called The Sound of the Bell—a collection of stories about people who have finished treatment and the lives they’re living now. Not just what you survived, but who you became. Not just the fight, but the after.

I’m looking for a small number of people who might be open to sharing their story about cancer: gently, honestly, in their own words and their own way. This isn’t about being inspirational on demand or having the “perfect” story. Quiet stories matter. Complicated stories matter. Ordinary, hard-won, deeply human stories matter.

If you rang the bell—or if someone you love did—and you feel a little nudge when you read this, I’d love to hear from you. You don’t have to know exactly what you’d say yet. We can start with a conversation.

This book is about dignity, about memory, and about what it means to step back into your life after everything changed. It would be an honor to listen.

With respect and gratitude,
Lynne

About the Book

About the Book

About the Book

The Sound of the Bell is a book about survival, identity, and meaning. It’s a portrait of human resilience and a testament to ordinary courage. It is not a medical guide, and it isn’t interested in turning pain into spectacle. This is not a “just be positive” book, and it’s not a collection of tragedies. It’s a storytelling project rooted in dignity, honesty, and the lived experience of people who have walked through something hard and are finding their way forward.
