Independence Day Appeal
Dear Supporter,
One of the biggest fears PVA members face when they become paralyzed or disabled is the loss of their freedom: Freedom to care for themselves. Freedom to work. Freedom to go places with their families. Freedom to participate fully in life.
They answered the call of duty and fought for America’s independence. Now they are home, fighting for their own.
These American heroes need your support to conquer the new challenges they face—and you can honor them in a meaningful way this Independence Day.
Thanks to the generosity of fellow PVA supporter Philip, a 20 year U.S. Navy Veteran, your gift today will be matched and go twice as far to make sure paralyzed veterans receive the help they deserve.
This Independence Day, please join me as we light the way to more freedom, more opportunities, and more support for veterans with spinal cord injury or disease, such as MS and ALS.
Your gift will be doubled to provide more access to grants and benefits that will help them live comfortably in their communities; more employment help so they can provide for their loved ones; more research to find medical breakthroughs for spinal cord disorders; and more advocacy for the civil rights of all people with disabilities—all at no cost to veterans and
their families.
This is an incredible opportunity to repay the men and women who bravely served our country and now battle to regain their physical independence. They need to know caring citizens like you haven’t forgotten them. Please honor their heroic effortswith your gift today.
And because these veterans are at high risk during the pandemic, any amount you contribute will help us address isolation, limited supplies, financial challenges and other health issues made even more urgent by this crisis.
Thank you for helping PVA light the way for the freedom of our American heroes.
With my heartfelt thanks,
P.S. Please don’t let today end without making a gift. Brave men and women who served our country need your support.
Give now to double the impact of your generosity. Thank you!

Frontline caregivers need your support this year to help our Veterans
Dear %%First_Name%%,
All of us here at PVA recognize how critical caregivers are for the paralyzed and disabled Veterans we serve. 2020 presented many challenges, and caregivers stepped up to keep their Veterans safe and healthy.
Imagine for a moment: your spouse becomes paralyzed and you become a full-time caregiver.
That’s what happened when Veteran Milton Young became quad incomplete. His wife, Marcia, stepped up and took on an additional role as his full-time caregiver. “She kept me in the ballgame when I got hurt. The only thing we had was hope and faith.” -Milton recalls
Being a caregiver isn’t easy.
Marcia says, “I was scared to death. But I couldn’t let anyone know that. I had worried family members…I was so set on keeping everyone else calm, I couldn’t let it affect me that way. I’m the caregiver, I take care of everybody else,” Marcia said.
Marcia was brave and devoted, but she wished for extra support. Finally, Milton and Marcia discovered PVA.

Milton says, “What has PVA done for me! Let me tell you……It was like having a big brother watching over your back. They helped us know what benefits that we were able to receive. Guided me through paperwork. I can honestly say, what they did for me, it changed my life.
Now I volunteer for them, I said hey this is something I want to be a part of! It changes individuals’ lives, and I wanted to help.”
Not every paralyzed Veteran has a family member like Marcia who is able to help in that capacity. Thanks to you, we’re able to work diligently to ensure that every paralyzed Veteran has support.
Will you help paralyzed and disabled Veterans and their caregivers this year? Please give generously so that we can support people like Milton and Marcia in 2021.
Keep caring,

Father’s Day Appeal
Dear Supporter,
“Most people wouldn’t have the strength to go on, but my dad has a very strong, determined mind. I love and admire him very much. ”
That’s Sarah, talking about her father Hack Albertson. Hack served as a weather observer and assistant forecaster attached to Marine Aircraft Group 31 until a devastating accident severed his spine and placed him in a wheelchair for life.
This Father’s Day, as we honor our fathers and grandfathers, we also need to remember all the fathers like Hack who care for their families and children while facing the challenges of being paralyzed veterans.
Please make a gift now to honor veterans and all the fathers in your life.
Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) helps veterans like Hack, as well as their families and caregivers, by helping them obtain earned benefits; investing in medical research and education; giving them employment assistance; providing peer support; and advocating for legislation that improves the lives of all people with disabilities - free of charge.
Hack may never walk again. But, as you can see from this dance with Sarah on her wedding day, he is living life to the fullest!
“The fact that he’s paralyzed doesn’t affect his personality and character,” Sarah says. “That’s why he is my hero, my father.”
In fact, Hack inspired Sarah to pursue a career in service. She’s a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, fighting for America while knowing that back home PVA is fighting for veterans like her father in your state and throughout this great country thanks to supporters like you.
Our nation is full of heroes like Hack, supporting their families and serving their communities, and I believe they are an inspiration to us all!
To all the fathers, brothers, uncles, sons and grandfathers who have sacrificed so much for our nation and our freedom, Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Paralyzed Veterans of America.
With my heartfelt thanks,
P.S. It isn’t only their service to America that makes our paralyzed veterans such heroes. It’s also the example they set when the war is done. Thank you for remembering their service, sacrifice and commitment with a Father’s Day gift.
